Walkthrough

  1. 01

    No gyms — Island Trials!

    4 islands × ~2 trials each, capped by a Grand Trial vs. the Island Kahuna.

    • Each trial has a 'Totem' — buffed Lv. 12–55 Pokémon that calls allies. Bring a high-Defense lead and a wide-coverage attacker.
    • Z-Crystal awarded after each trial — once-per-battle nuke matching the move's type.
  2. 02

    Melemele Island (Hala, Fighting)

    Lv. 9–14

    Verdant Cavern — find Totem Gumshoos (Sun) or Raticate (Moon). Beat Hala's Crabrawler.

    • Totem Gumshoos (Lv. 12) summons Yungoos — Strong Jaw boost. Brick Break, Brick Break, Brick Break.
    • Hala: Mankey (Lv. 14) → Makuhita (Lv. 14) → Crabrawler (Lv. 15, Z-Move on Power-Up Punch). Psychic/Flying/Fairy.
    • Reward: Fightinium Z + Ride Tauros.
  3. 03

    Akala Island

    Lv. 18–28

    Trials: Lana (Water), Kiawe (Fire), Mallow (Grass) → Grand Trial vs. Olivia (Rock).

    • Lana's trial: Brooklet Hill — Wishiwashi Totem (Lv. 20, Schooling). Grass/Electric one-shots.
    • Kiawe's trial: dance pattern memory test, then Totem Marowak-Alola (Lv. 22, Lightning Rod) — Water/Ground/Rock.
    • Mallow's trial: cooking quest, Totem Lurantis (Lv. 24, Sunny Day Solar Blade). Fire/Flying/Ice.
    • Olivia: Nosepass (Lv. 27) → Boldore (Lv. 27) → Lycanroc (Lv. 27, Z-Move). Water/Grass/Fighting/Steel.
    • Reward: Rockium Z + Ride Mudsdale.
  4. 04

    Ula'ula Island

    Lv. 32–40

    Trials: Sophocles (Electric), Acerola (Ghost) → Grand Trial vs. Nanu (Dark).

    • Sophocles: Hoshi (alien) bait quest, then Totem Vikavolt (Lv. 29, Speed boost). Ground/Rock/Fire.
    • Acerola: Old Trial Site, Totem Mimikyu (Lv. 35, Disguise + Z-Move Shadow Claw). Ghost/Steel.
    • Nanu: Sableye (Lv. 38) → Krokorok (Lv. 38) → Persian-Alola (Lv. 39, Z-Dark Pulse + Fake Out). Fighting/Bug/Fairy.
    • Reward: Darkinium Z.
  5. 05

    Poni Island + Aether Foundation arc

    Lv. 40–50

    Big story moment — face Lusamine and the Ultra Beasts.

    • Aether Paradise raid: Faba (Psychic) → Plumeria → Guzma (Bug) → Lusamine (Lv. 47, mixed types).
    • Solgaleo (Sun) / Lunala (Moon) joins your team via story event around Lv. 50.
    • Catch Necrozma at Lv. 75 in Mt. Lanakila post-game (Sun/Moon only — fuses in USUM).
  6. 06

    Mount Lanakila — League (NEW!)

    Lv. 51–60

    First Elite Four built specifically for Alola. Then face Professor Kukui as Champion.

    • Hala (Fighting), Olivia (Rock), Acerola (Ghost), Kahili (Flying) — pick order.
    • Kukui: Lycanroc/Magnezone/Snorlax/Braviary/Primarina-or-Decidueye-or-Incineroar (counters your starter)/Tapu Koko (Lv. 60). Plan for his Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain.

Pro tips

  • Z-Moves are once-per-battle nukes — get one Z-Crystal per trial.
  • Festival Plaza replaces the PSS — host events for items.
  • Ride Pokémon replace HMs — ride Tauros, Charizard, Lapras, etc.
  • Pokémon Refresh cures status effects with petting/feeding.

Post-game

  • Catch all Ultra Beasts via the Aether/Looker mission.
  • Battle Tree (Poni) — like Battle Maison but with multi battles vs. famous trainers.
  • Lots of Mega Stones obtainable post-game.
