"An item to be held by a Pokémon. These curious glasses boost Sp. Atk but only allow the use of one move."

Effect

Held: Increases Special Attack by 50%, but restricts the holder to only one move.

Held: Increases the holder’s Special Attack by 50%, but restricts it to the first move it uses until it leaves battle or loses this item. If this item is swapped for another Choice item via Trick or Switcheroo, the holder’s restriction is still lifted, but it will again be restricted to the next move it uses. (Quirk: If the holder is switched in by U-Turn and it also knows U-Turn, U-Turn becomes its restricted move.)

Where to find it

Game abbreviations follow the standard Pokémon series conventions.

Generation IV

  • In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl , due to a glitch , if a Pokémon uses U-turn and switches into a Pokémon holding Choice Specs that also knows U-turn, that Pokémon will be locked into U-turn. This was fixed in subsequent games.

Generation VII

  • If a Pokémon holding Choice Specs uses a move other than the one it's locked into (such as through Instruct or Dancer ), the move will fail and no PP will be deducted.

Generation VIII

  • Dynamax Pokémon are unaffected by Choice Specs (both the move-lock effect and the stat boost). If a Pokémon is locked into a move due to Choice Specs and then Dynamaxes, when the Dynamax ends, the Pokémon once again can only use the move it was already locked into.
