Where to find it
Game abbreviations follow the standard Pokémon series conventions.
Generation III
- If used underwater , the Dive Ball has a 3.5× catch rate modifier; otherwise, it has a 1× modifier. Since there are no underwater areas in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen , it will always have a 1× modifier in those games. In Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness , Phenac Stadium is considered an underwater area, so the Dive Ball has a 3.5× catch rate modifier there.
Generation IX
- If used while the Pokémon is currently on or in water, the Dive Ball has a 3.5× catch rate modifier; otherwise, it has a 1× modifier. The bonus catch rate only applies to Pokémon that swim in water, or typically walk on land and have entered water.
- Pokémon that always fly or hover do not benefit from this bonus, excluding instances where a Pokémon typically walks on land, but has an animation of "flying over water" instead of "swimming in water", such as Tropius . [ 1 ]
- Additionally, the pool of water near the Firescourge Shrine is not properly considered "water" due to a bug, and therefore nothing benefits from an increased catch rate from Dive Balls there, even if the Pokémon would otherwise be eligible.
