Effect
Transports user to the outside entrance of a cave.
Used outside of battle : Transports the trainer to the last-entered dungeon entrance. Cannot be used outside, in buildings, or in Distortion World, Hall Of Origin, Spear Pillar, or Turnback Cave.

Game abbreviations follow the standard Pokémon series conventions.
Generation I
- When used in the overworld while the player is in a cave or dungeon, the player is warped to the last Pokémon Center they healed at (or the player's house if they have never healed at a Pokémon Center).
- Due to an oversight in Pokémon Red and Blue , this can be used to escape from from the Sea Cottage or the Vermilion City Pokémon Fan Club . This was fixed in Pokémon Yellow .
Generation VIII
- In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Escape Rope is now an infinite-use Key Item . In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl , it is a consumable item again.
