Battle Strategy
Lucario thrives as a versatile wallbreaker or late-game cleaner capable of running either physical or special sets. It relies on its high offensive stats and access to powerful priority moves to bypass its mediocre speed tier and secure KOs.
Best Used In
Lucario excels in lower Smogon tiers like RU or UU as a setup sweeper. In VGC, it is best utilized as an anti-Intimidate attacker or on niche 'Beat Up' Justified strategies in older formats.
Strengths
- ›Dual 110/115 offensive stats make it unpredictable
- ›Steel typing provides 9 resistances and an immunity to Poison
- ›Access to Extreme Speed provides +2 priority for finishing faster threats
- ›Adaptable Movepool including setup options like Swords Dance and Nasty Plot
Weaknesses
- ›Poor 70/70/70 bulk makes it easily revenge-killed
- ›Middling base 90 Speed is outpaced by many modern sweepers
- ›Common weaknesses to Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type attacks
- ›Relies heavily on Life Orb or Choice items to secure specific KOs
Competitive Tips
- ›Run Inner Focus to ignore Intimidate drops and flinches from Fake Out in VGC
- ›Use Swords Dance paired with Extreme Speed to sweep through weakened teams
- ›Consider Meteor Mash for its 20% chance to boost Attack while hitting Fairy-types hard
- ›Equip Life Orb to maximize damage output across its varied coverage moves like Close Combat and Flash Cannon
- ›Utilize Vacuum Wave on Nasty Plot sets to maintain priority pressure against faster offensive threats
