Battle Strategy
Lycanroc-Dusk functions as a potent glass-cannon wallbreaker or late-game cleaner leveraging its Tough Claws ability to boost contact moves. It utilizes high Speed and Attack to force switches, often employing Accelerock for priority-assisted revenge killing.
Best Used In
It excels in the UU (UnderUsed) Smogon tier as a powerful wallbreaker and is a niche but effective 'cleaner' in VGC formats where it can exploit its priority STAB to pick off weakened legendary threats.
Strengths
- ›Tough Claws ability provides a 1.3x damage boost to most of its primary attacks.
- ›High base Speed (110) allows it to outpace a significant portion of the unboosted metagame.
- ›Access to STAB priority via Accelerock to bypass faster threats.
- ›Strong coverage moves like Close Combat and Psychic Fangs.
Weaknesses
- ›Extremely frail with 75/65/65 defensive stats, making it prone to being OHKO'd by neutral hits.
- ›Pure Rock typing leaves it vulnerable to common Fighting, Ground, Steel, Water, and Grass moves.
- ›Vulnerable to priority moves like Bullet Punch and Mach Punch.
- ›Reliant on items like Life Orb or Choice Band to achieve critical OHKOs.
Competitive Tips
- ›Equip a Life Orb or Choice Band to maximize the damage output of Tough Claws-boosted Stone Edge and Close Combat.
- ›Use Swords Dance on predicted switches to turn Lycanroc-Dusk into a lethal late-game sweeper.
- ›Utilize Psychic Fangs specifically to break through screens and hit Poison/Fighting types like Iron Valiant or Sneasler.
- ›Keep Lycanroc-Dusk in reserve until its checks are weakened, then clean up using Accelerock.
- ›Consider a Jolly nature to ensure you outspeed Base 100-108 threats like Enamorus or Garchomp.

Game History
Introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Lycanroc-Dusk was originally obtainable only via a special event Rockruff with the Own Tempo ability. It gained significant fame as Ash Ketchum's ace in the Alola region, famously winning the Manalo Conference finals against Gladion's Lycanroc-Midnight.
Trivia
- ◆It is the only Pokémon with the ability Tough Claws that is not a Mega Evolution, a Paradox Pokémon, or a Fossil/Legendary variant.
- ◆Its eyes glow green when attacking, a trait supposedly inherited from its Midday form, while its fur color mirrors the setting sun.
- ◆It can only evolve from a special Own Tempo Rockruff between 5:00 PM and 5:59 PM (in-game time).
- ◆Its base stats are a hybrid of its Midday and Midnight forms, possessing the high Attack of Midnight and the high Speed of Midday.
- ◆In the anime, Ash's Lycanroc evolved after witnessing a Rare Green Flash during a sunset, a real-world meteorological phenomenon.
- ◆Despite being a Rock-type, its movepool is heavily focused on biting and clawing maneuvers.
