Battle Strategy
Machamp serves as a powerful wallbreaker and status-inducing threat by leveraging its No Guard ability to land low-accuracy, high-impact moves. It excels at forcing switches and disrupting defensive cores with the confusion status and raw physical power.
Best Used In
Machamp is most effective in Smogon's lower tiers (NU or RU) as a wallbreaker or in specialized Trick Room teams in VGC where its low speed becomes an advantage.
Strengths
- ›High base 130 Attack stat
- ›No Guard ability ensures 100% accuracy for all moves
- ›Good natural bulk with 90/80/85 defensive spreads
- ›Access to priority move Bullet Punch
Weaknesses
- ›Low base 55 Speed makes it prone to being revenge killed
- ›Vulnerable to Fairy, Psychic, and Flying-type attackers
- ›Reliance on No Guard makes it susceptible to opponent's low-accuracy moves like Hurricane
- ›Face stiff competition from faster Fighting-types like Conkeldurr or Iron Valiant
Competitive Tips
- ›Use Dynamic Punch with No Guard to guarantee 100% confusion on the target.
- ›Equip Flame Orb with the Guts ability as an alternative set to punish status spreaders.
- ›Utilize Knock Off to remove Eviolites or Heavy-Duty Boots from switch-ins.
- ›Set up a Substitute on predicted switches to bypass its low speed tier.
- ›Heavy-Duty Boots is recommended in tiers with entry hazards to preserve its longevity.

Game History
Introduced in Generation I as the final evolution of Machop, it famously required a trade to evolve, making it a status symbol in early link-cable play. It gained a significant competitive buff in Generation IV with the No Guard ability and later received a Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
