Battle Strategy
Yungoos functions as a low-tier wallbreaker, utilizing its Stakeout ability to punish opponents who switch into its high-powered moves. It relies on Life Orb or Choice Band to maximize its mediocre Attack stat and force progress against neutral targets.
Best Used In
Yungoos is primarily niche in the Little Cup (LC) format and very low-power tiers. It excels in 'Switch-In Punishing' strategies where Stakeout can be exploited to its full potential.
Strengths
- ›Stakeout ability doubles damage on switching targets
- ›Strong early-game STAB moves like Hyper Fang
- ›Adaptable Movepool including Earthquake and Fire Fang
- ›Strong Normal-type offensive presence in LC
Weaknesses
- ›Critically low defensive stats and bulk
- ›Poor Speed tier makes it easily revenge killed
- ›Vulnerable to common Fighting-type priority moves
- ›Loses momentum if it fails to predict a switch
Competitive Tips
- ›Run Choice Band with Stakeout to maximize the damage dealt to incoming switch-ins.
- ›Utilize U-turn to maintain momentum and position Yungoos against a predictable swap.
- ›Equip Silk Scarf if you need the freedom to swap between Hyper Fang and coverage like Earthquake.
- ›Use Tera Normal in higher tiers to boost its damage output to more respectable levels.
- ›Pair with entry hazards to force switches and activate Stakeout more frequently.
